When it comes to the holidays you have so many options at your fingertips for the next family getaway. You can always stay home and continue your family traditions you have held onto for so long. You can visit somewhere new and make new memories along the way. If the latter sounds like it is what your family needs consider visiting Oceanside. We will get you out of the cold weather and instead have you nearby a beautiful beach. Just because you will be in Southern California does not mean you will miss out on Thanksgiving events and activities either. Take a look at what makes an Oceanside Thanksgiving the best destination around this year:
O’Side Turkey Trot
One of the most common traditions for Thanksgiving that is celebrated in cities all over the country is the Turkey Trot. You look at any destination you are thinking of going to and we guarantee they will be hosting a Turkey Trot in some capacity. Of course, not all Turkey Trots are as exciting as others and Oceanside’s version is one that will set the standard for your family tradition. Oceanside is home to the O’Side Turkey Trot that will be entering its 19th consecutive year in 2024. This has become one of the fastest growing Thanksgiving events here in Oceanside, and this year is sure to be a hit.
This year’s event is bringing a few different races as well for you to choose. The O’Side Turkey Trot offers two separate 5K races, one starting at 6:45 AM and the other on 8:05 AM allowing you to choose when you want to run. 5K races are a great way to kick start your appetite before your eventual feast later in the day. The O’Side Turkey Trot encourages you to go at your own pace whether it is running, jogging, or walking the race. There will also be the Kids 1-Mile Run and the Kids 1/5-Mile Run, so children of all ages can also enjoy the festivities.
The races are not the only cool thing happening at this event either! Make sure to come dressed up in your best turkey costume contest. Live entertainment will also be on hand along with a medal ceremony. Those who participate in the O’Side Turkey Trot will also receive a race shirt, participation medal, and results sent your way. This event has been recognized as one of the top Turkey Trots in the country and raises over $500,000 for local nonprofits supporting those in need. Don’t miss out on this year’s O’Side Turkey Trot taking place on November 28th.

Thanksgiving season is fast approaching and with it comes a unique opportunity for family bonding and trying out new adventures. There is a lot more to Thanksgiving than the usual turkey dishes in the family backyard. Instead of embracing it the traditional way, a trip to the coastal city of Oceanside would be a better alternative. It is a city of multiple adventures that stretch beyond the sea. Here are the unique ways to celebrate Thanksgiving in Oceanside.
Watersports
The number one reason why most vacationers pick Oceanside as their holiday destination of choice is the beach. The city has a vast beach with white sand and calm waters. The sun-heated sand not only massages your feet but also forms a playground for vacationing families. When not on the beach, the Oceanside waters have a lot to offer. Swimming is the most basic thing you can do. If you are in the mood for messing around, try adrenaline-filled activities such as snorkeling. Also, the sea waters are a bit warmer in this part of the world despite the oncoming chilly conditions of winter.
Marine Wildlife Tours
Oceanside is a good place for you to explore marine wildlife. The Oceanside pier is a reasonable point to start. From here, you will easily trace sea creatures hopping from one section of the water to the next. For a closer and more intimate marine wildlife encounter, you will need to make your way to the sea. Along the beach are companies offering marine tour services to willing vacationers. Board one of those vessels to the deeper sections of the sea where creatures are more active. Dolphins and migrating whales are some of the creatures unique to the Oceanside waters.
Sunset Cruise
Oceanside is known for its breathtaking sunsets. The setting sun creates quite a beautiful scene for you to see and photograph. While these sunsets can be witnessed comfortably from the seashore, booking a cruise into the deeper sections of the ocean is the real deal. It is one of the most luxurious things you can do in the city. Chasing sunsets in a luxury yacht adds a new dimension to your Thanksgiving experience in the city. The foods and drinks served while floating in the sea make the whole adventure worth it. You may as well decide to ride a helicopter for better views of the setting sun.
Explore Botanical Gardens
Your Thanksgiving adventure in the city is not limited to the beach. You can stay away from the beach and still enjoy your holidays in the area. Miles away from the sea are botanical gardens that are unique to the city. These laid-back environments offer a much-needed break away from the chaos of the beach. Take your kids for a tour of the multiple strawberry farms in the city. The satisfaction that comes with obtaining fruits straight from the farm makes your adventure in the city worth it.
Make it a Shopping Adventure
Thanksgiving means you are appreciating the universe for the goodness you have experienced throughout the year. While at it, do not forget to appreciate yourself for the hard work you have put in over the past year. Oceanside is a good place for you to start rewarding yourself. Downtown Oceanside is home to multiple shopping malls specializing in a wide range of products. Whether it is that sparkling necklace for you to look good or a bottle of perfume you admire, you have it all in one destination. Kids have a lot to pick from the store including toys and costumes for special occasions that resonate with them.
Chow It Down
At the center of Thanksgiving celebrations across America is the iconic turkey meal. Your trip to Oceanside however comes with the freedom to do more beyond the typical turkey dishes. It is the best time to sample what this side of the California Coast has to offer. Seafood menus are the order of the day here. However, you may decide to sample other cuisines including Chinese noodles and Vietnamese pho. To sum up an eventful Thanksgiving holiday experience in the city, a bottle of your favorite drink will do. Most restaurants in the area have a rooftop bar where you sip your drink of choice with dramatic views of the sea in the backdrop.
